Listen
This is very important. Some of the most successful dates
result from listening.
People like to talk about themselves. Bring up interesting
subjects and just ask questions. Make the date all about them.
People can easily start thinking of you as "all full of
yourself" if you talk too much. Listen, that's
all. They will brag to all of your friends about how you're
such a good listener.
Good conversation topics
Finding topics to talk about can
be hard sometimes. Reading the news to learn more about current
events can help. Talk about what's going on in the world of
entertainment. Music, books, TV, or movies. When you really
want to get them going, ask questions about what they do for
a living. You can ask studens about their classes, and keep
asking. People are most comfortable talking when
they are talking about what they do every day. Avoid topics
such as war, politics or religion. Save those topics for
date 5.
Humor
People love a sense of humor. Most
have a sense of humor, but fail to exhibit it on the first
date because they are too worried about being proper. It's
OK to say something that might catch them by surprise. Joke
with about how big your feet are,
anything to break the ice. It really works well also when you
accidentally say or do something goofy, you can spin it around
and make fun of yourself.
To Kiss or Not to Kiss
At the end of the night,
it is time for the nervous time where you decide to kiss or
not to. You can tell a lot
by body language. Are they smiling? Looking at your lips? Some
people have a strict "No
kissing on the first date" policy.
When the time comes,
say your goodnight and gently move towards them. Let the other
decide which direction they wants you to go in. They will either
move toward your cheek for a hug, or directly to your lips.
Your
safe bet on a first date is probably
a hug. If you make it to date two, be sure to go for the kiss
at some point or you will be "friended".
